Pokemon Movie 9 - Pokemon Ranger and The Temple Of The Sea
The film opens with a mysterious egg floating in the sea. It is suddenly captured by Phantom the Pirate. The egg is snatched by one of his crew members who is actually a Pokémon ranger named Jack “Jackie” Walker in disguise and he manages escape Phantom’s ship with the egg with the help of a Mantine. Meanwhile Ash, Pikachu, May, Max and Brock are continuing their journey only to find them in an open wasteland without any water. They run into the Marina Group, a family traveling performance group meeting Elizabeth, her parents Kyle and Meredith, and her grandfather Chip and they own water-type Pokémon and psychic-type Pokémon who also perform for their shows, including a familiar clown. They offer them water and shelter for the day. That night, May is exposed to the egg that was captured and rescued earlier and witnesses a dream for which she finds herself at an underwater temple with a mysterious Pokémon. The next morning the Marina group share that they are descents of a group of people called the People of the Water, and they all share the same dream. Just then they find Team Rocket (Jessie, James, and Meowth) taking off with the egg. The clown steps in and reveals himself as Jack Walker and with the help of Ash and Pikachu and captured Fearow, they rescue the egg and Team Rocket goes blasting off.
Jackie shares to the kids that the egg is an egg of a Pokémon called Manaphy, who is known as the Prince of the Sea, and his mission is to deliver it to Samiya, the sea temple. Just then Phantom arrives in attempt to take back the egg, but after a tussle the egg hatches in May’s hands. The new born Manaphy suspects May as its mother and May quickly becomes attached to it. They escape Phantom and his men to an underwater route where the Marina Group tell the story of Samiya. The Manaphy participate in a ritual after a lunar eclipse, which exposes the temple since it blends in with the water. Meanwhile, Phantom runs into Team Rocket who hires them to clean. As everyone is leaving the tunnels through a grotto, Jackie mentions that the kids can’t be a part of the mission, since it is a "Pokémon Ranger's job". When taking off into the ocean with Chip’s boat The Blue Lagoon, Manaphy starts to cry when noticing it isn’t’ in May’s arms. Ash and May run after the ship and Manaphy uses it’s ability Mind Swap to switch Jackie to Ash’s body and Ash’s to Jackie’s. They stop the ship and the kids come aboard for the adventure, however Manaphy must choose it’s own path besides staying in May’s arms for the remaining time. On the adventure, Jackie notices that May and Manaphy are getting too close and he asks Ash to help separate them, much to Ash’s dismay. May walks in and hears the entire conversation and starts to cry in Elizabeth’s arms. On the meantime, Phantom has been following them below without any notification of the Marina Group. The next day, Manaphy watches May’s bandana fly off into the sea by the wind and chases after it. Manaphy doesn’t come back in quite a while so Elizabeth, Ash, Pikachu, May, Max and Brock take off in a submarine to find it. Phantom heads off alone in his own submarine to follow them. They manage to find Manaphy with May’s bandana in its hands. Suddenly a riptide comes in and they lose control of the submarine and signal from The Blue Lagoon.
The lunar eclipse occurs and Samiya becomes visible underwater. The submarine enters the barrier and they exit submarine on the temple’s grounds, with available oxygen inside. Shortly, Phantom arrives and he runs into the children and opens the massive chamber of the Sea Crown, the treasure he has been seeking. He snags some jewels from the crown which causes Samiya to start sinking and flooding. Jackie arrives with the help of a Mantike and come face to face with Phantom who has taken most of the jewels from the Sea Crown. Jackie manages to put some of the jewels back during the face-off but one ends up lost somewhere in the temple. They are taken away by the flood shortly afterwards. Manaphy, desperate to save the temple takes off to try and return Samiya back to normal. Elizabeth, Max and Brock remain in the submarine and are forced to take off by a powerful wave. Ash and May chase after and notice what Manaphy is trying to do and they help put the remaining jewels back in the crown. They notice one is missing, but they can’t stay any longer since they are foot deep in the water. Phantom finds out that Team Rocket hid in a capsule attached to his submarine. Team Rocket end up following a fast current. Jackie hijacks Phantom’s submarine while Phantom takes another capsule and speeds off with it. Ash, May and Manaphy are still stuck in the temple with no way out. They find the last jewel but the entire temple is nearly completely flooded. They find one of Phantom’s capsules and has May, Pikachu, and Manaphy wait inside closed while Ash makes a heroic attempt to return the jewel. He dives into the crowns chamber but the jewel sinks to the bottom of the chamber. He loses his oxygen when attempting to grab it and he faints. May sends a message to Ash with Manaphy’s Heart Swap saying “Don’t give up, be strong.” Ash wakes up and rushes to the top of the chamber and collect his last amount of oxygen before diving down and successfully returning the jewel.
The temple rises to the surface; much to everyone’s relief but May believes Ash might have died saving the temple. All of a sudden Phantom shows up and snatches Manaphy. Ash shoots out of the water carried in a yellow beam powered by the Sea Crown. He rescues Manaphy, but the trouble isn’t over. Phantom emerges with his ship from the water for one last attempt. Many water-type Pokémon attack the ship but Phantom’s crew retaliates with a Supersonic ray. Manaphy uses it’s unique singing to calm all the confused Pokémon before ordering them to attack on the ship and lastly riding on Kyogre, whom fires a powerful Hyper Beam at Phantom’s ship destroying it. The explosion reveals Phantom wearing a Mecha-suit solving the mystery for what makes him so strong. In the end, Jackie declares his mission complete and Samiya leaves the surface with Manaphy. However Manaphy shows up to share on last goodbye to May. After taking off, Max asks her sister if she will be alright. May replies saying “No I’m not, but I will be.”
During the end credits, Phantom is arrested and Ash, Pikachu, May, Max, and Brock say goodbye to the Marina Group and take off to continue their journey, and Jackie is seen capturing a Zapdos.
